” I wanted to create a maritime feeling, with instruments that could capture a big dynamic spann, to make the compositions feel vivid and human. Since the Indo community has a strong connection to boats and the ocean because of the past, was this something I wanted to make hearable in the music. Which instruments could be associated to waves, boats, hybridity, the ocean? For me that became the harmonium, the cello – played by Alfian Emir Adytia, kendang played by Wulan Dumatubun, my analogue synthesizer, my gamelan sound pack topped with field recordings from Indonesia.”
Fun fact: The composing and the filming and editing of the movie was done simultaneously – to intertwine our creation processes as closely as possible and let the music and image grow and interact with each other.

Zorgdragers
In Zorgdragers (2025), filmmaker Juliette Dominicus follows her sister Marcia who works as a psychologist. While mental health is increasingly discussed in society, it remains taboo for mental health professionals to speak openly about their own vulnerability. Through their sisterly bond, the film offers an intimate portrait of healthcare providers who admit what many do not: that they, too, need help.
Documentary produced by Tangerine Tree.

“My main idea was to offer the listener sounds that could be beneficial—sounds that promote healing and grounding. Director Juliette specifically asked me to work with the hangdrum, so I invited musician Mike Verlaan to collaborate on this project.
Since the film addresses mental health, I drew inspiration from techniques used in sound therapy, such as bilateral beats, where a tone moves from one ear to the other. This balanced stimulation can have a calming or energizing effect on the nervous system.
I also wanted to express Marcia’s emotional process, moving from static/robotic through confrontation and chaos/letting go toward hopefulness. I translated this musically by starting with tightly timed, static sound loops and gradually moving toward a freer ending in which Mike Verlaan improvised completely—without a click track or any other constraints.”

Indisch Zwijgen (2022) is a documentary in which three artists attempt to break the generational silence surrounding their families’ past. The documentary is directed by Sven Peetoom and Juliette Dominicus, produced by There Will Be Film.

“Het is bewonderenswaardig hoe open en kwetsbaar de drie jongeren zich opstellen tijdens hun zoektocht, waarmee ze ook daadwerkelijk dichter bij hun familie en het verborgen verleden komen.” – Filmtotaal ★★★★

“I felt deeply connected to the documentary’s subject, as my roots also lie in Indonesia and therefore was a bit in the same position as the three artists we follow in the documentary. Back in 2022 I had just finished my own project around family history and it truly gave me a sense of belonging, working on this documentary. For the soundtrack, I wanted to evoke a sense of hybridity by blending electronic, ambient music with elements of Indonesian gamelan. This was the first time I worked with and explored this combination of sounds for a movie soundtrack and it felt fitting that—while following the three artists in their search for their roots—this journey would also manifest itself sonically and emotionally in the music.
Fun fact: The composing and the filming and editing of the movie was done simultaneously – to intertwine our creation processes as closely as possible and let the music and image grow and interact with each other.

Bewogen
Our bodies are treasure chests full of memories. In Bewogen, three dancers bring memories of home, freedom, and loss to life through dance, music and spoken word.
We can express our memories in words, but how do we do so in a physical way? Through dance, music and spoken word- 3 dancers brings memories to life. In this mosaic narrative, the memories of the dancers are interwoven. Though deeply personal, they touch on universal themes everyone can relate to—from new life and the wonder and curiosity of childhood to carrying loss. Directed by Noa Zevenbergen.

“While composing for Bewogen, I listened closely to the memories and stories of the three dancers featured in the documentary. My goal was to translate their emotions and movements, sonically reflecting what they wanted to share. Grief, curiosity, playfulness, and wonder are just a few of the feelings I expressed through a process of watching the film and improvising on piano, strings, suling and mandolin, combined with electronic elements and recorded sounds—skin against skin, hands on drumskins, and fragments of glass.”
The Suling was played by Armand Van Wijk.
In this film my song ‘Sometimes I Sea, Sometimes I Don’t’ was featured.
Liefde in Procedure
Fams and Kelly fell in love when Kelly was volunteering at the asylum seeker center where Fams was living. Since then, the Dutch-Gambian couple has been building their relationship simultaneously as Fams’ asylum procedure in The Netherlands. How do they cope with the uncertainty and the endless wait for the asylum outcome? And what impact does this have on their relationship?
Directed by Laura Huygen and Moos Pozzo.

“Naturally, I wanted to capture Fams’ and Kelly’s dynamic as a couple sonically, while also weaving in a piece of Fams’ cultural heritage from Gambia—the Kora. I was honored to collaborate with Kora master Jalli Lamin Kuyateh, who elevated my compositions with his mesmerizing Kora playing and his powerful voice. Throughout the soundtrack, I aimed to convey the feeling of waiting that suffuses Kelly and Fams’ daily life and relationship, as well as the intense ups and downs they experience as a couple—moments of joy, bliss, and love, contrasted with deep frustration and a sense of powerlessness in the face of the Dutch asylum process.”
Fun fact: I worked as a workshop leader at the same asylum center as Fams’ stayed at and worked with Kelly for a week – a year later I was coincidentally asked by Laura Huygens to join their team in telling Kelly and Fams story.
